Masala rice



Ingredients:

8 oz preboiled cold rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
2 green chillies finely chopped(optional)
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds.
1 spring onion finely chopped for garnish.


Method:

1.Add the salt and turmeric to the cold pre boiled rice and mix. Keep aside
2.In a frying pan add the oil when hot add mustard seeds and chillies
3.Wait for the mustard seeds to pop add the rice and warm throughly for about five minutes gently tossing as not to break the grains.
4.When rice warmed through transfer to serving dish and garnish with spring onion.

Serve with yoghurt.

  1. I was just scanning through ur posts to see any quick recipes..this sounds good and easy... I was just wondering if we can add egg in the frying pan to make it egg masala rice.. ?? Will it work ?

  2. @ kishore what you are referring to is chinese egg fried rice.Yes it will work follow recipe as above then beat an egg and pour it over the rice.Keep tossing the rice till egg is cooked but carefully other wise all rice grains will break up if you stir too hard.

  3. Any recipe with mustard seeds is one I'm going to give a go! Popping this in my recipe folder too - might try the egg addition as well as we're eggy rice lovers in this family! Have tried a similar recipe before but this one sounds much nicer... x
